The department was established in the year 1996. It offers Under Graduate (UG) level of study both for Honours & General programs, in addition to that this department offers an interdisciplinary program as an “Alternative” subject. Dr.Ranjushree Patra, Ex-Associate Prof., earlier head of the department retired on 30th May 2014, then prof. Lipika Sarkar is serving this department as Head who was appointed as an assistant professor in the year 2008. Prof.SubhasreePatra and Prof.Rumki Banerjee is serving the department as Part-Time Teacher since2003 and 2004 respectively. The department is also enriched with Prof. Soma Hazra, Prof SrayanaSen, and Prof.Anup Kundu. In the academic session 2015-2016, 97% of students passed successfully. The Department of Bengali has a good strength of students with a good academic output.
